Habitat Wausau Celebrates 35 Years and 75 Homes

Habitat for Humanity of Wausau (HFH) will host an open house and home dedication on October 7, 2025 at 1702 Plum Drive in Wausau. An open house will be hosted from 5:00pm-7:00pm.  The community is invited to tour the home and celebrate the completion of HFH’s 75th home.  A short dedication ceremony will be held at 6:30pm.

Construction on the home began last September in a collaborative partnership between Mosinee High School Construction Trades class and HFH Wausau. Habitat Wausau provides the plans, building materials, dwelling contractor license and oversite of the build process.  The school’s qualified instructor creates the curriculum, provides the instruction and oversees the student build.  Habitat Wausau has been investing in trades education with area schools in the Wausau area for nearly 20 years.

After the students’ build portion of the project was complete, the home was transported and crane-set on the waiting foundation in May of 2025. HFH’s volunteer construction team, corporate partners, and community volunteers worked through the summer to complete this home.

Executive Director, Tiffany Arnold shared “As we celebrate the completion of Home 75, we also celebrate 35 years of building homes, communities, and hope in Marathon County. Each home represents not only a family achieving the dream of homeownership, but also the collective spirit of volunteers, donors, and partners who make this work possible. Habitat for Humanity of Wausau is proud to carry forward this legacy of service, and we look forward to building many more homes—Together, we build brighter futures.”

Habitat for Humanity of Wausau is an Equal Opportunity Lender.  Partner families purchase their homes through HFH Wausau’s zero-interest financing program.  These long-term partnerships result in many successes, mortgage pay-offs, children headed to college, and second generations of families living in Habitat homes.  Partner families attribute their Habitat Home as a source of financial stability.

When families have safe affordable housing, they can create their own success.  Children who grow up in owned homes have improved grades, are more likely to graduate high school and 116% more likely to graduate college than children who grow up in rentals.

About Habitat for Humanity of Wausau:

Habitat for Humanity of Wausau operates as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Since 1990, the Wausau organization has been committed to helping low-income families achieve their dream of home ownership. Families apply for the Home Ownership Program through a stringent screening process, verifying their ability to purchase their homes. HFH’s Program offers a non-profit mortgage enabling families to purchase their home, pay their property taxes, and insurance for monthly costs close to what they had been paying in rent.

Partner families repay a zero-interest mortgage, are U.S. citizens or permanent residents, live in the greater Wausau area for a least one year and pass a criminal background check.  Each partner family must complete 300 hours of sweat equity on their home and in the community.

Since 1990, Habitat for Humanity of Wausau has completed 75 home builds in the Wausau community.  Wausau Habitat ReStore is a large funding source for the Home Ownership program.  Retail store hours are Wednesday through Friday 10am – 4pm and Saturdays from 9am to 2pm.  All proceeds from the Wausau Habitat ReStore support HFH Wausau’s home build program.
